Where Is Jesus When You Need Him Most?
In the familiar account of Jesus walking on the water, there is an easily overlooked point. We know the disciples were in the boat on their way to Capernaum when a fierce storm arose. Experienced fishermen were struggling against the storm. But where was Jesus? Why was He not with them? Didn’t He know they needed help? What on earth was He doing?
Where was Jesus when they needed Him most? Maybe you have asked the same thing – or at least thought it:
Lord, where are You?
The answer may surprise you. Scripture tells us Jesus was back on shore – praying. Yes, He was praying. But, what about the disciples? What about the storm? You may say, What about my storm?
My dear brothers and sisters, Jesus is well aware of where you are and what you are facing. In the meanwhile, trust Him. He’s still praying. This time He is praying for you. In John 17 we can see that Jesus prayed for His disciples. He prayed for their spiritual growth, their unity in faith, and their continuing joy (among other things).
In that same chapter we also see that He prayed for you (vss.20-26). Let that sink in. Jesus prayed for you. To take that thought another step, consider this: He is still praying for you. We know that He is constantly interceding to the Father on our behalf. That alone is cause for rejoicing and absolute confidence. Why? Because God the Father always answers the prayers of the Son. Think about it. Even when…
- …your own faith falters
- …your hope fails
- …you feel like giving up
…Jesus is praying for you. Even when you can’t get your own prayers out, He is still praying for you.
So, keep rowing against the wind. He knows all about it. He is watching over you in the darkness. Friend, eventually He WILL show up, and He’ll show up according to His time schedule. And when He arrives, it will be at exactly the right time and you will be right where He wants you.
Jesus is praying for you.
