From the Light Side of Ministry
I talked with a pastor friend today. Our relationship is a long one. Our conversations are often filled with laughter. I was updating him on some of our recent activities. His church supports this ministry. The conversation took a very unexpected, humorous turn!
As we talked, I shared our upcoming mission efforts because I know his congregation prays for me and our mission teams. We talked about the trip next week to La Romana. I told him about the sports evangelism camp at the end of May in Barahona. I asked him to let his folks know we are in need of baseball equipment to take with us and funds to buy field equipment once we are there. We talked a little about the vision of seeing some of these players coming to faith in Christ and knowing some of them will wind up in the big leagues. That is a great mission opportunity!
The next thing we discussed was Samana. I gave him some of the specifics from our trip last week and told him about our plans to start a new pastor training school there at the end of June. As I described the city and the opportunity I told him Samana would be a great place for him to take his wife. It’s a very beautiful place. I expect several folks are going to want to spend an extra day or two there after mission work is over. He brought that discussion to a laughter – filled end.
He said his wife would not be going. I wanted to know how he could say that so quickly. His response:
She won’t fly. She doesn’t get any higher than corn and no lower than taters!
Made my day!!!
