So they were saying to Him, ‘Who are you?’… (John 8:25)
Have you ever considered the amazing claims of Jesus? Have you pondered those claims to be the Bread of Life, the Light of the World, the Way, Truth and Life? His ultimate claim was very clear to His contemporaries. He declared Himself to be the I AM, equal in essence and Spirit with the eternal God. Those claims eventually led to His crucifixion.
So, who was this man called Jesus? Was He just a crazy man as some supposed? Was He a liar as many accused Him of being? Or was Jesus really God in the flesh? Could this have been the actual manifestation of God to mankind?
Several years ago C.S. Lewis wrote that Jesus was either liar, lunatic, or Lord. If we stop our hurried lives long enough to consider the question, Who is Jesus? we will reach one of those conclusions.
If He had been mentally unstable or insane, surely those around Him would have found out and turned away. At best they would have sought to keep Him quiet and put Him in a safe home to live out His days in seclusion. If He had been a liar, surely His followers would not have lived the rest of their lives promoting and dying for those lies. People don’t sacrifice their lives for a lie! Even secular historians of the day recorded that Jesus’ disciples died for their faith. The only logical conclusion is that Jesus really was (and is) the eternal I AM. He actually is the:
- Bread of Life
- Light of the World
- Son of God
Lonely one, I will never leave you, you can trust Him. He is there whether or not you can see Him.
Burdened friend, be assured He keeps His promise to hear and answer your prayers. He may be working behind the scenes, but be confident He is faithfully working.
Struggling saint, you can stake your eternity on His promise to forgive our sins. Heaven is yours based on His righteousness.
Discouraged Christian, if He cares for the sparrows in the sky, then you can know He cares for you. Tomorrow is in His hands.
Brokenhearted one, He came to heal the brokenhearted. Call out to Him for He fully understands what you are going through.
Jesus is far from being a liar or a lunatic. Jesus Christ is Lord! His disciples knew it:
