What successes to you celebrate the most? Everyone enjoys celebrating success. It’s a good thing. There was a lot of celebration last night as Trent Harmon won American Idol. I’ve been with friends as they celebrated SEC Championships and National Titles. Today I have what most would consider a much smaller celebration. But I have idea that this ‘little’ celebration is much bigger in God’s eyes than Idols or Titles!
Success: YOU Made It Happen
Over the last several days, I have shared the family needs of our friend Johnny. As you know, his son needs a follow-up surgery on his esophagus. As of last night, we have the funds to cover the surgery! Thank You! seems so inadequate. But it is so necessary. So I’d like to remind you to be like that tenth leper that returned to thank Jesus. Let’s all start by giving thanks to the Father. He is good at all times and in all ways!
Success: Let’s Do It Again
The other major thing right now is the orphanage in Barahona. As I have shared, we have an opportunity to do some great things together. Why would I call them great? How could success with a toddler’s surgery or helping orphans be greater than Idols or Titles?
Only God knows the plans He has for a little boy now about three years old. Only He knows what will be accomplished in that life. But whatever it is, we have had a part in it. Now, take that thought and multiply it 108 times. Why? That’s the number of boys the orphanage is built to house. And how is that a success?
Many would see food, clothing, and shelter as success enough. I see something much bigger and you probably do as well. I know there is a bigger vision in Barahona than physical needs. Think about boys being taken in from a life on the streets.
First, there are the problems that won’t happen because we acted. Second, there is the life-change that will happen as they are guided and mentored by people like Jodie (new orphanage director) and Pastor Pedro (and there are many others there!).
Most, or maybe all, of those boys will wind up at some point working alongside our ROW mission volunteers on various projects. All children in every culture learn by watching adults. Just spending time building relationships is a huge part of being a misison volunteer. It’s a two-way street for life-change. And what does life-change in boys accomplish in the future?
Again, only God knows that. But how many ways can those boys grow up physically and spiritually and further the cause of Christ? Among those boys will be:
- Many other life roles
Everyone of those things is a bigger success in God’s eyes than Idols or Titles! But none of it would be possible without the ministry that begins in the orphanage. Please pray. Please stay up to date. Please share the needs as often as possible. Please look forward to celebrating more Kingdom success!
Soli Deo Gloria!
