Answered prayers are the best encouragement I know for people to keep praying. Almost a year ago I was in La Romana. Prayers prepared the way for that mission and I asked for your prayers when we got home. You may remember someone I asked you to pray for.
In my post, Mary Magdalene, I asked you to pray for a modern-day woman just like Mary. Each time we came back I checked on this woman’s situation. There was no change. Even this past spring when our team was in La Romana, this woman’s life had not changed. Today, there is MUCH to report and celebrate. (No, that is not her in the picture!)
I am overjoyed to report this woman’s life has changed. She has given up the immoral lifestyle and work. Your prayers are in the process of being answered. We were able to share the Gospel with her again this week. She is not yet a believer, but she is taking steps toward that decision. Please keep lifting prayers on her behalf. But, that’s not all!
More than one woman in that same situation has given her life to Christ this week! We have seen the Lord do the miraculous for His glory. We shared the message of God’s love and offer of forgiveness with one I’ll call Rosa and it was a very memorable event. She knew what she needed to do. She wanted to follow Christ. She wanted to put her sin behind her. She hesitated because of two things. Most churches here tend very much toward legalism. When we said she could have God’s forgiveness, she was interpreting that as, ‘I have to be ready to be perfect.’ We had to talk about that for a good while. Then there was the second situation.
Rosa had a good income. She lives better than most. She felt trapped. She has two children and knew she couldn’t do anything else to provide for them. She felt trapped. We told her help would be available to her. We didn’t necessarily know how, but we assured her God would provide a way to take care of His own.
Steps are just now being taken to provide a way out for women in this situation. Job training and other things are being developed and provided. Women need to be part of future teams to La Romana to teach sewing, computer skills, and many other things. These things will take a while come about for Rosa. But her past needs to remain her past. By Thursday we will have a new study Bible for her and that will help. She doesn’t know it, but we will leave funds in La Romana to take care of her as long as possible so she won’t be tempted to take a giant step backwards. Your help is welcome.
In addition to Rosa, fourteen others are now children of God. Your prayers are being answered. I say being answered because this is only Tuesday. We don’t leave until Saturday. More answers to report tomorrow!
