Is it the Right Question?
How many different ways has that sentence been completed? Mission volunteers may often hear we are most like Jesus when we are on mission. But Jesus (God) has many significant characteristics. The best known Bible verse in the world is John 3:16 –
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
So if we are giving we are also like God. John 3:16 and I Corinthians 13 show we are also like God if we love. So what’s my point?
Mission Volunteers – Like Jesus
One of our Savior’s significant traits is creativity. As a matter of fact, He is creativity. And I want to show you some amazingly creative stuff in this post!
John 1 tells us that nothing that was created came into being without Jesus (the Word). He is the source and agent of creation. So we are like Him when we are using the creativity He put within us. Think about that!
The cover photo is something called Word Art – and I don’t mean the Microsoft kind. Some creative mind took the word peace from many different languages and shaped those words into the universal symbol for peace. That’s good. But what I want you to see is inspired creativity with a purpose.
Mission Volunteers – Creativity With Purpose
The Sewing Circle is a group of ladies who meet weekly to sew quilts. That’s a ministry of their local church. I have shared their work in previous posts and taken their work with me to the mission field. Their quilts have a space to write the recipient’s name and Scripture is sewn in. Their creative efforts are used to share the Gospel. Most of them will never be on a foreign mission field, but that doesn’t stop them. They found a way to minister beyond the limits of health, geography, and finances. Our Belize team will taking the quilts you see in the pictures.
Pumpkins – Another mission volunteer family is making pumpkins in order to fund their involvement with a ROW mission team. I love what they are doing. I am reasonably sure I would not have thought of that, but I am so glad they did. People are responding to them by making orders for their work. Their trip costs will be raised that way and they will have another opportunity to be on the front lines of mission work in November.
Blueberries – Mission volunteers seem to have immense creativity. One family who has a blueberry farm has used the sale of their blueberries in order to fund their involvement with a ROW Evangelism team.
Mission Volunteers – Multiple Likenesses
Mission volunteers are like Jesus in many ways. That includes:
If mission volunteers can be creative in going, how creative can you be in sending? Every mission volunteer team, including the one that leaves next week and the one that leaves next month, needs your help. Apply your own creativity to that which will allow you to use the donate tab on the upper right side of this page.
Oh yes. About that question at the top. There isn’t just one answer. We should just leave out the word most. Our Father is many, many wonderful things. And He is infinite in them all!
Soli Deo Gloria!
P.S. It wouldn’t take to much creative effort to put a comment at the end of this post and let me know you’d like a pumpkin. I’ll connect you to those folks.
