Journey Group Devotional – 8/18/15
Being on a faith journey with Jesus is not a guarantee of ease. Our path will include:
- Hills & valleys
- Cold winds, & sometimes no wind
- Hot stretches, like walking in the sun
There will be blisters and your Journey Group friends should pass out the Band-Aids! Hopefully, we develop a few calluses on tender toes. But throughout our lifelong journey, we are learning as we serve alongside Him. As participants and partners, we experience things that spectators and onlookers do not get to see. We learn as we go and therefore:
We grow as we go
As His first disciples followed Jesus, perhaps they went to some new places. Most likely, they were familiar with the places they visited. While we have been given the Great Commission which instructs us to go into all the world, only a relative few are called to permanently relocate to far-away places and cultures. Your Willow Street pastoral team desires every Christian, and especially Journey Group members, involved in missions for your growth and the spreading of the Gospel. Most of the time we will find oursleves following Jesus:
- Up and down familiar hills
- Across familiar streams
- In familiar places
John’s record of the Jesus’ second sign gives us a little insight into that fact. John tells us that Jesus and His disciples, Went again to Cana. We should be aware that our journey isn’t about the destination as much as it is about His plan. It is about Jesus. Whether or not we are in familiar places won’t deter us from experiencing His glory. In fact, being around the people who knew us before we became followers of Christ should allow them to see and experience His glory. Why? They should see the difference Jesus has made in our lives today.
Do your friends and relatives see a difference in you? Do they see the glory of Christ through the way you live for Him?
Let’s be willing to go wherever He leads – into foreign lands or familiar places. But wherever He leads us, let’s make Him known. Let the glory of the Lord be seen through you!
Let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. – Jesus
